Practices Explained
“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”
- Khalil Gibran
INsight~Nidra combines several elements, uniquely created by Ian Melrose, to deepen the experience and open pathways for insight, balance, and inner transformation.
Each of the following practices contributes to the foundation of INsight~Nidra, blending to support deep rest, enabling physical and emotional healing, and a growing sense of self-understanding.
Yoga Nidra
Often called “yogic sleep,” Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that brings the body into deep relaxation while the mind remains gently aware. Rooted in ancient yogic traditions, it offers a doorway to the subtle realms of consciousness, inviting a profound connection to the inner self. In this deeply restful yet conscious state, the body can repair, support healing, and release long-held mental and emotional patterns.
Vipassana
Vipassana is a traditional Buddhist meditation practice, often translated as “insight meditation,” that offers a clear and direct understanding of the true nature of reality. The term “Vipassana” means “to see clearly” or “to see things as they really are,” and involves cultivating moment-to-moment mindfulness of bodily sensations, feelings, and the mind to gain an unclouded view of one’s own experience.
Visualisation
Visualisation is the practice of intentionally creating vivid mental imagery to cultivate a state of peace, focus, or desired outcome. By imagining a scene, sensation, or goal, and engaging all the senses, the mind and body can align with that experience, supporting clarity, calm, and a greater sense of well-being.
Archetype Work
Archetype work is the exploration of universal patterns and symbolic figures within the psyche, such as the Hero, the Caregiver, or the Explorer, to deepen understanding of thought, behaviour, and potential. Reflecting on these archetypes can provide insight into recurring life themes, reveal inner strengths, and support personal growth and self-awareness.
Chakra Alignment
Chakra alignment is the practice of bringing awareness and balance to the body’s subtle energy centres, known as chakras. Each chakra corresponds to specific physical, emotional, and mental qualities, and aligning these centres can support overall well-being, clarity, and inner harmony. Through focused attention and meditation, blocked or imbalanced energy can be released, fostering vitality and equilibrium.
Non-Dualism
Non-Dualism is a philosophy that recognises all aspects of existence as interconnected and ultimately part of a single, unified reality. It’s based on an understanding that the apparent separation between self and other, or inner and outer, is an illusion created by the mind. Through direct experience and awareness, this perspective reveals a deep sense of peace and wholeness, where life is seen as one continuous flow of being.
